We are the union representing faculty at the University of Illinois at Chicago

Who we are

UIC United Faculty is the labor union representing Tenure/Tenure-Track and full-time Non-Tenure Track faculty (including visiting faculty) at the University of Illinois Chicago, a bargaining unit of over 1,500 people. Our union was certified by the Illinois Labor Relations Board in 2012. We won our first contract in Spring 2014 after a short two-day walkout. In February 2023, we ratified our most recent contract agreement after a week-long strike that garnered national attention. This contract ensures annual raise pools, substantially improved minimum salaries, stronger workload protections, and initiates our union’s commitment to organizing for student wellness and other common good issues. It will remain in effect until its expiration in August 2026.

UIC United Faculty is committed to:

  • Realizing the mission of the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) as a public research university in a democratic society.

  • Making the promise of shared governance a reality by backing it with the power of collective bargaining.

  • Making sure that every member of the faculty has an individual voice and that the faculty as a whole has a collective voice in determining our future.

  • Keeping the principles of academic freedom, free speech and free inquiry central both to our union and our university.
